Months ago, the Chris Klug Foundation Marathon Team started training in anticipation of running 26.2 miles through New York's five boroughs. Now, the time has come to pound pavement, represent Aspen, and raise money in honor of the difference-making organization!
Interspersed between interval training and cardio days have been gym workouts at The Aspen Club, Thug Yoga classes tailored specifically to a runner's needs, and Hi2T classes. The entire process began back in May, and now the Chris Klug Foundation Marathon Team is heading to New York City to put the hard work to use on the streets, bridges, and paths of Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens, and Staten Island.
"As a trainer at The Aspen Club and person of Aspen, we preach lifestyle and healthy living," says Lucarelli. "By doing this marathon, I live by the core values and code of Aspen and The Aspen Club. This race encompasses what makes our community special. This is who we are! We live by what we teach. We don’t wake up at 10 a.m. and press the snooze button. We live it."
"If Chris Klug can receive a life- saving liver transplant 15 years ago as a result of a heroic and selfless decision of a stranger and win an Olympic medal, we can run 26.2 miles at sea level," says Lucarelli. "He’s honestly an inspiration. If I am going to ask for money I am going to represent this town and my donors to the best of my ability. In the end, there won’t be any excuses. I’m giving 1000% and the people who donated and town of Aspen will get 1000% in return. One day every year, every New York borough comes together to support the runners and forget every social, economic, cultural, religious difference for an entire day. On Marathon Day, nothing else matters."
And, Lucarelli says, "We will represent Aspen!”
