Rather than pack the bike away throughout the long winter months in Rocky Mountains to cross train or spin, Power Tap gyms, like the Aspen Club and Spa, store individual rider’s bikes on site and set them up for use and training during Power Tap sessions. The Power Tap TM technology allows each rider to train indoors on their own bikes, ensuring an entire winter’s worth of training on the very equipment that will be used in races and riding all spring and summer.
In addition to training on racing equipment, a PowerTap power meter is installed on each participant’s bike, measuring the power produced by that rider. Feedback from the meter is then instantly available to the rider, the personal trainers and the coaches to design a custom training program. An initial assessment will determine individual riding programs based on the power produced by each rider’s body. Included in this analyzation is a look at each individual’s lactate threshold and overall riding efficiency to determine they best way to maximize power production from each respective rider.
A personalized training program is created to meet every rider at their personal fitness level while challenging them to meet their fitness goals, whether that is to race in the Pro Challenge, enjoy the wide range of trails in the area, lose weight or simply pedal throughout town in the summer months. Throughout the winter, periodic reassessments of riders allow for customized adjustments to exercise regimes based on the progress, needs and goals of each rider.
In the gym, while using the PowerTap technology, riders of all levels can train together. The Power meter attached to each bike will provide riders with the information necessary in regards to the intervals and pace they need to ride to reach their goals. While all of the riders perform the same workout, depending on their ability levels, each rider will meet his or her own range goals, allowing a customized workout in a group setting.
