If I had a penny for every time someone said to me "I'm not flexible" I would be a millionaire . . . maybe even a billionaire. Inflexibility is actually a protective mechanism within the body. Free your mind, link movement with breath and you will be amazed at just how flexible you are physically and mentally.
Many of us suffer from inflexibility within the low back and hips. But, here’s the thing ... the hips are a dynamic area of the body. They are the source of power, core stabilization and posture. All proper movement begins behind and below our navel. So, if this area of your body is inflexible, you are:
- Losing power and wasting valuable energy,
- Compensating in other areas of the body which adds to the risk of injury
- Have likely developed poor body mechanics
- May be suffering from low back, neck, shoulder pain
"Posture is mastered by freeing the body and mind from tension and restlessness and meditating on the infinite." ~~ Patanjali
There is an art to moving skillfully and going deeper into a posture. We don't push . . . that's the ego. As we go deeper into the postures, we allow the body to free itself to create both strength & flexibility through the length, depth & pace of our breath.
A great way to unlock the hips is with some skillful postures designed to address all the muscles that attach to our femur heads and pelvic bowl. Combine this with the 6 movements of the spine and you have a powerful way to unlock this region of the body and tap into endless sources of energy and stability.
